Roaring River State Park was in a lot better shape on Friday than it was a couple days ago. All the rain caused the river to live up to its name when 250 fisherman and campers had to be evacuated early Tuesday.  On Friday, they made their way back to the popular trout park.

Gov. Jay Nixon joined them on Friday. He checked out what damage the flash floods caused.  He was impressed with how quickly crews responded to get the park back up and running.

The governor really commended the training of park officials for reacting so quickly to get everyone off the campground as the water accumulated.

"People responded quickly but they didn't wait. That's really important. They responded at the ground level where they know their communities better and because of that we're here on a Friday afternoon talking about when can we go fishing again at Roaring River this weekend; we’re not talking about lives were lost and it's important that we continue to train,” Nixon said.

The governor also visited nearby Cassville on Friday afternoon, which also was hammered by flash floods. He says he will request federal funding by next week after assessing total damage.
